Preschool Curriculum

At Main Street, we believe that to help children develop to their fullest potential, their environment should encourage curiosity and provide opportunities to think creatively, make choices, and solve problems. We also believe that a positive self-image – enhanced by adults – gives children the confidence to meet life’s challenges and enables them to succeed.

Accreditations

Main Street Child Development Center (Main Street) is proud to be accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, which administers the only national, voluntary, professionally-sponsored accreditation system for all types of schools and child care centers. The Academy is a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s largest organization of early childhood educators. In order to obtain this accreditation, Main Street voluntarily completed the comprehensive process of internal self-study and was evaluated by an external team of professionals to verify compliance with the Academy’s criteria for high quality early childhood programs.

We have also been awarded a 4-Star rating in the Virginia Star Quality Initiative program from Smart Beginnings, a service of the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation.

The Creative Curriculum

Main Street proudly uses The Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies LLC. By incorporating the latest research and best practices in early childhood education, The Creative Curriculum provides for a high-quality learning environment, enabling every child to become a creative, confident thinker.

Children learn through play, and teachers carefully plan in order to meet children’s learning and social emotional needs. In depth studies of social studies and science topics creatively engage and challenge all children toward:

  1. skills in language and literacy, math, technology, and the arts.
  2. application of skills in meaningful, real-life contexts, which equips them to solve problems and find answers to their questions.
  3. higher-level thinking
  4. development of intellectual interests
  5. positive approaches to learning
  6. the development of social-emotional skills such as resolving conflict, sharing responsibilities, and working collaboratively

The Creative Curriculum values frequent, active parent and family involvement; family culture is celebrated. We know our partnerships with families make a positive difference in our children’s lives. Expect plenty of opportunities to join your child for special activities throughout the year!
