Preschool Program

Main Street Child Development Center provides a high quality, comprehensive early childhood education preschool program to children, ages 2-5 years. Our preschool program is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We have also been awarded a 4-Star rating in the Virginia Star Quality Initiative program from Smart Beginnings, a service of the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation.

Classrooms

Each of our classes features the teamwork of a lead teacher and 2 assistant teachers, providing a 1:6 teacher to student ratio, which is well above the national average.

Main Street is proud to implement The Creative Curriculum, an evidence based, well respected comprehensive curriculum. Through a series of hands-on, child-focused, differentiated studies, the children experience learning as an active, inquiry-based pursuit.   In addition,  we recognize the importance of supporting our children’s social/emotional development; we use the award winning curriculum,  Al’s Pals – Kids Making Healthy Choices.  This resiliency-based early childhood curriculum and teacher training program develops personal, social, and emotional skills in young children.

Main Street knows the value of including parents in children’s activities. We offer many ways to for parents and teachers to stay connected: teachers post weekly plans outside each classroom door; daily information messages meant to foster conversations between children and their family are posted as well. Main Street’s Facebook page is updated often, and classroom info is shared with families through an education/communication app called REMIND. Parent conferences are scheduled twice a year; we meet more often at the request of families or teachers.

Be assured that “Best Practice” is a lens through which we view programming for all our preschool classes. Our commitment to meeting children’s cognitive and social/emotional needs frames our decision-making.  Our consistent focus on teacher training supports our teaching and children’s learning. We take very seriously our goals to inspire children’s learning, encourage exploration, and empower children to achieve their fullest potential.

We invite you to come to Main Street and check us out!  It’s the best way to see our quality in action!
