Elizabeth Egan
Elizabeth Egan is the executive director of Main Street Child Development Center.
Ms. Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Frances Xavier University,
and a graduate degree in education from the University of Ottawa, Canada.
She has also taken graduate courses in elementary education from Boston State College,
and early childhood education courses at George Mason University.
Ms. Elizabeth taught children for 10 years, from grades Pre-Kindergarten through third grade,
in Toronto, Canada, and Buffalo, N.Y. She was also a Title 1 reading teacher in Boston
during the time of court-ordered busing, and the Children with Disabilities Resource Center
teacher in Natick, Mass. Most recently, Ms. Elizabeth was director of Burke Presbyterian
Preschool in Burke, Va., for 10 years prior to joining Main Street Child Development Center
in 1999.
Ms. Elizabeth and her husband, Gerry, have three children, Kathryn, Patrick, and Timothy,
son-in-law, Randy and granddaughter, Ashlyn.
She is an active member of the National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC),
the National Head Start
Association, and the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI).
During her tenure at Main Street, the Center has completed three national accreditations and won the Fairfax Country Human Rights Award in May 2000.
