Barbara Micek
Barbara Micek is the assistant director of Main Street Child Development Center.
Ms. Barbara holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in human development and family science, both from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She has also done graduate work in sociology, with a focus on family resiliency, at Minnesota State University, where she taught undergraduate courses in family and consumer science. In addition to postsecondary teaching, Ms. Barbara has spent much of her professional career working with at-risk children and families.
Ms. Barbara began her career in family services as a Head Start center director in Alliance, Nebraska. At her most recent post, she was the community coordinator for a large and highly diverse public elementary school in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Ms. Barbara has two sons, Joe and Ben, who live in Colorado, but who are known to strap on their backpacks and travel, most recently to Central America and Asia. She also has two dogs, Lucy and Friend, and a turtle (20 years old!) named Dribble.
Ms. Barbara is a member of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) and a past member of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS), American Sociological Association (ASA), Midwest Sociological Association (MSA), and the American Psychological Association (APA).
