Ms. Michelle
Ms. Michelle was the administrative assistant at Main Street Child Development Center
from 2005-2006. She then worked for Fairfax County Public Schools as an instructional
assistant for three years – one in special education and two years in Kindergarten. Most
recently, she completed her degree at George Mason University before becoming lead
teacher in the Sunshine Classroom in 2010. A resident of Northern Virginia since 1997,
Ms. Michelle has a bachelor's degree in integrative studies with a concentration in
elementary education and a minor in special education (mild disabilities).
In addition to her work at Main Street, Ms. Michelle is a teacher’s assistant at George
Mason University’s New Century College.
Ms. Michelle loves children, music, reading and sports. She also writes poetry and
hopes to be published one day. She has two sons, Austin and Andy (10 and 9 years old)
who attended Main Street Child Development Center when they were younger.
“I have seen how all aspects of a highly qualified Early Childhood program contributes
to a child’s success,” says Ms. Michelle. “Our children need to make meaningful
connections that are representative of their values and beliefs that they, as individuals,
are bringing to the classroom. Our society in general is not going to move in the
direction of change if every unique person does not feel validated and represented.
As an educator and an active citizen I plan to promote the change, acceptance, and
validity that are needed inside and out of the classroom. Inclusion has become the
topic of prevalence and it is important to embrace the challenges of our differences and
promote recognition and legitimacy of what each student can contribute in the learning
environment. I believe that any student can and will succeed given ample opportunities
and participating in meaningful experiences.”
